"…I work one-on-one with students to guide them in making informed decisions before committing to a specific academic program."

Here at D'Youville, we understand that choosing a major requires research, reflection, and having an open mind.  Our Career Discovery Program is designed to help students navigate through this process and make the most of their college experience.

The Career Discovery Program (CDP) gives students opportunities to learn more about the academic majors available to them at D'Youville College.  As the CDP Coordinator, I work one-on-one with students to guide them in making informed decisions before committing to a specific academic program. The CDP courses, which are worth free-elective credit, focus on self-assessment, reflection, and academic exploration. While students are learning more about their unique interests and goals, they are also earning credits toward degree completion. Kinda cool, right?

Students in the program also learn about the importance of networking.  Each semester in CDP, we create opportunities for interaction with faculty, staff, and other students on-campus. Interactions such as these help our students to not only make connections within our college community but also to gain more insight into program requirements, coursework, and even internship and shadowing opportunities.

I believe in the mission of the Career Discovery Program and I feel blessed to work with such an enthusiastic and inspiring population of students. If in some small way I can help students obtain their goals, I know the program has served its purpose. I enjoy being a part of this time in students’ lives – watching them grow and achieve their goals is truly rewarding for me.
