Campus Ministry offers many volunteer opportunities on campus and in communities near and far. Habitat for Humanity, Adopt a Grandparent, Haitian Relief, mission trips to New Orleans and Spring Alternative Break trips are just some of the ways you can help others.
Lending a Hand Mission Trip
About 30 students travel each year to New Orleans to lend a hand. Service locations include the Bayou Sauvage Wildlife Preserve and Refuge, Villalobos Pitbull Rescue, Second Harvest Food Bank and Green Light New Orleans. Each community service experience is exceptional. Our annual, week-long mission trip to New Orleans in December results in positive, life-changing experiences for students who participate.
If interested, watch for an email from Campus Ministry with instructions. You'll need to fill out an application and submit it to Campus Ministry.
Soil Project (Fundraising for Haiti)
The SOIL Project is sponsored by D'Youville College Hunger Initiative.
SOIL has been transforming wastes into resources in Haiti. Through the use of ecological sanitation, SOIL is working to create a revolutionary social business model for providing access to safe, dignified sanitation that produces rich, organic compost as a natural resource for Haiti's badly-depleted soils, while also creating economic opportunities in some of the world’s most under-resourced communities." More information can be found on www.oursoil.org.
York Street Clean Up and Beautification
Every year Campus Ministry organizes a group of students, faculty and staff to help clean up and beautify nearby York Street. We work with the neighbors tidy up the community garden and the sidewalks.
Adopt a Grandparent
Through the Adopt a Grandparent Program, students can socialize with adult residents at Mary Agnes Manor, a senior living facility adjacent to the DYC campus.
Other Local Service Projects
The D'Youville community helps meet the needs of many different agencies and populations in Buffalo. Here are a few:
Friends of the Night People – serve at a local soup kitchen for the poor and homeless
Habitat for Humanity – help build a house in the Buffalo area twice a semester
Meals on Wheels – deliver meals to the house-bound and elderly
Neighborhood Halloween Party – help organize a party for neighborhood children and trick-or-treat fun on campus

D’Youville’s Campus Cupboard is a campus-wide effort to ensure every student has access to vital non-perishable food items and personal care items. Campus Cupboard is available to any D’Youville student who has a need: No questions will be asked. No financial proof will be required. No paperwork will be needed.
Anyone seeking assistance only needs to contact the Campus Ministry Office or stop by the office in the Koessler Administration Building. If you know of an individual in need, but that person is uncomfortable seeking assistance, please contact our office and we will arrange to discreetly provide them with assistance.
Frequently Asked Questions
According to Feeding America, a network of emergency food shortage agencies, nearly one third of those they serve had to choose between paying for food and covering educational expanses in a 2014 survey. And that need extends to our campus: From April 2016 to May 2017, Campus Cupboard assisted over 450 students.
The Campus Cupboard is always accepting donations of (non expired) non-perishable food items and personal care items. Donations can be brought to or left at the Campus Ministry Office, KAB 121. Arrangements can be made to pick up donations by contacting Fr. Patrick O’Keefe at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 716-829-7672. Monetary donations are also accepted.
